Harlem of the West: A Tribute to Five Points' Jazz Era
Presented in partnership with Dazzle Jazz Club, Harlem of the West: A Tribute to Five Points’ Jazz Era brings the music, style, and spirit of Denver’s historic Five Points neighborhood to Dazzle for an evening of live jazz, visual storytelling, and historic interpretation.
Featuring songs from the 1930s through the 1950s, the concert will honor the sounds once heard in the clubs, stages, and gathering places that made Five Points nationally known as the “Harlem of the West.” Performances by JoFoKe (vocals), Tenia Nelson (piano), Tony Exum Jr. (sax), Matt Campbell (drums), Carl Jackson (bass), and Hugh Ragin (trumpet) will evoke the energy of Denver’s jazz-era nightlife. History Colorado will also share curated collection displays of historic photographs, El Chapultepec flyers, Rossonian menus, brass instruments, period clothing, and other materials connected to the era.
