About Walmart Backroom Operations Behind every neatly stocked Walmart sales floor is a massive backroom operation where freight is received, sorted, organized, and staged for efficient movement to the shelf. Backroom Associates are the inventory gatekeepers who manage this hidden supply chain — unloading trucks, binning overstock into steel racking using inventory management handhelds, pulling picks when items scan out on the floor, and maintaining the organized backroom environment that allows stockers to find and move freight quickly. A well-run backroom is the difference between a store that is always in stock and one that is not. You will unload delivery trucks, sort freight by department, bin overstock into backroom steel using inventory handhelds, process automated picks, and maintain the organized backroom environment that supports efficient sales floor replenishment. Key Responsibilities • Unload GM and grocery delivery trucks using rollers, pallet jacks, and conveyor equipment to move freight into the backroom. • Sort received freight by department, staging pallets and cases in designated areas for floor stockers to access. • Bin overstock merchandise into backroom steel racking using Walmart inventory management handheld devices. • Process automated system picks pulling binned merchandise to the sales floor when shelf inventory scans out of stock. • Maintain backroom organization including clear aisles, properly labeled bins, and compliance with fire safety clearance standards. Qualifications & Benefits Must be 18+ years of age. No prior backroom or warehouse experience required. Comfort with handheld technology and inventory scanning systems develops quickly with training. Must lift up to 50 lbs and operate pallet jacks safely. Walmart offers competitive backroom associate pay, flexible scheduling, associate discount, 401(k), stock purchase plan, health benefits, and advancement into backroom team lead, receiving lead, and stocking coach positions.
