Need a breather from the Boulder bustle? Just a short drive from downtown, Coot Lake serves up still waters, mountain views, and peaceful trails that loop through wetlands and wildlife. This 1.2-mile trail loops around the lake and connects to the Boulder Reservoir, making it perfect for a leisurely walk, jog, or nature stroll with the kids. Little ones can stop to read inspiring quotes and illustrations along the Art Walk, or observe ducks, dragonflies, and (if youâre lucky) a pelican cruising by. Dogs are welcome tooâjust keep them leashed unless theyâre part of the Voice and Sight Tag Program, and steer clear of the west shore and wetland areas.
A portion of the lake is also a protected wildlife reserve, so itâs a great place to bring binoculars and tap into your inner birder. Just keep an eye out for any algae bloom warningsâthose vivid green patches might be pretty, but theyâre not safe for pets or people when cyanobacteria levels spike.
Whether youâre looking to fish, picnic, read under a tree, or wander solo with your thoughts, Coot Lake delivers a mellow dose of midweek wonder.
