And guess what? He saw his shadow! That means six more weeks of winter in Boulder. 🌨️ | This quirky Boulder tradition has been going strong for over 11 years, and Freddy has never failed to make an entrance. This year, however, he had a bit of an oops moment—slipping on the ice! Luckily, the amazing volunteers from Rocky Mountain Rescue were on hand to assist. A huge shoutout to them for keeping both marmots and humans safe in our wild and beautiful city. 🚑👏 | The Legend of Flatiron Freddy | | Once a simple stuffed marmot housed at Boulder’s Flagstaff Nature Center, Freddy was accidentally left out one winter, and his fur took a hit. Rather than retiring him, Open Space and Mountain Parks Rangers decided he deserved a bigger role. Since then, Freddy has become a beloved part of Boulder’s Groundhog Day tradition. | Over the years, he’s made his way out of his burrow in wild ways—skiing, zip-lining, and even driving a tiny car! This year, despite his slip, he carried on his forecasting duties like a pro. |
