❄️ Winter Hike Monday: Canyon Loop at Betasso Preserve
🥾 Trail Snapshot (2026-Ready)
Distance: 3.3-mile loop
Difficulty: Moderate → Moderately Difficult
Dogs: Yes, leashed 🐕
Parking: Betasso Preserve Trailhead
Bikes: ❌ Not allowed Wednesdays & Saturdays (perfect hiking days)
🌲 What Makes This Hike a Winter Favorite
This loop packs a little bit of everything into just over three miles: sweeping mountain views, open meadows, quiet pine forest, and a few scenic overlooks that feel especially magical with a dusting of snow. Wildlife sightings are common — deer are frequent winter guests — and the cooler temps keep things calm and uncrowded.
Most hikers start downhill, which feels great… until you remember you have to climb back up. The final mile (or first, depending on direction) brings the real work, especially if snow or ice is lingering.
❄️ Winter Tips You’ll Actually Use
Traction helps. Microspikes are a smart call after snow or freeze–thaw cycles.
Stick to the trail. Even when it’s muddy — stepping off causes erosion and damages habitat.
Midweek magic. Wednesdays and Saturdays are bike-free, making them ideal for a peaceful winter hike.
Layers > speed. This is a slow-burn loop — dress warm and enjoy it.
