Happy Friday, Denver!

Once the aspens are bare and the high country gets icy, the Front Range really starts to shine. These are my go-to hikes for winter — big views, manageable conditions, and plenty of room for pups to tag along.

🥾 5 Best Late Fall & Winter Hikes Around Denver (Dog-Approved)

🥾 5 Best Late Fall & Winter Hikes Around Denver (Dog-Approved)

When the aspens drop their last gold leaf and the mountains start feeling a little too icy, these Front Range hikes absolutely shine. Think sunshine, wide trails, fewer crowds — and plenty of room for your four-legged trail buddy to sniff everything in sight.

🌊 Highline Canal — Denver Metro

Low-stress miles, perfect for cold days.

This is hands-down one of the best winter walking trails in the metro. Flat, flexible, and rarely snow-packed, the Highline Canal is ideal when you want fresh air without committing to elevation. Favorite access points include Kent Denver School, Bible Park, and Blackmer Lake when it’s not muddy.

🌿 Bear Creek Greenbelt — Lakewood

Easy, scenic, and quietly impressive.

Bear Creek delivers rivers, lakes, foothill views, and a surprising amount of wildlife — all on a mostly flat trail. It’s a perfect option for shorter winter days or post-work walks, and yes, there’s even a beaver pond near Wadsworth.

🌄 White Ranch Park — Golden

Feels like the mountains without the mountain weather.

White Ranch strikes a great balance: rugged scenery, sweeping views, but still winter-friendly. Park at the west trailhead for the best experience — you’ll get city views one way and snow-dusted foothills the other, with far fewer crowds than summer.

🏔️ North Table Mountain — Golden

Underrated, dramatic, and wildly different in winter.

This mesa looks unassuming from the highway, but once you’re up top, it’s all canyons, ice formations, and wide-open views. Winter brings fewer people and a whole new vibe — just avoid windy days and don’t risk illegal roadside parking (tickets happen fast).

🐾 Sandstone Ranch — Larkspur

Sun-soaked red rocks and big-sky energy.

Sandstone Ranch might be exposed in summer, but in winter it’s a dream. Red rock formations, open meadows, and ranch-land scenery make this newer open space feel remote without being far. Less mud, more sunshine — a perfect cold-weather combo.
