Denver Museums You Didn’t Know You Needed
Denver’s Most Surprisingly Awesome Museums
Happy Thanksgiving, Denver ! 🧩🎉
Ben here — checking in between mashed potatoes, parade-watching, and my yearly attempt to convince my family that cranberry sauce from the can is elite. If you need a little escape from the holiday chaos, I’ve got a fun one for you.
Since last week’s poll made it crystal clear that you all are craving hidden gems, we’re kicking off a brand-new series with something perfectly quirky for a post-turkey adventure: Denver’s tiniest, weirdest museums you’ve (probably) never heard of.

🏛️ Denver Museums Worth Your Weekend
Whether you want history, illusions, big feelings, or a whole lot of “wait… WHAT?”, here are the Denver spots absolutely worth wandering into.
Learn about the “Unsinkable” legend herself.
📍 Cap Hill | 🎟️ $8–$16 | ⏰ Closed Mon
Molly Brown is one of Colorado’s most iconic women — yes, for surviving the Titanic, but also for her life as a philanthropist, activist, and all-around powerhouse. This restored Victorian home gives you a peek into Denver’s boomtown years and the wild social world Molly moved through. A must-visit for history fans or anyone who loves a good “she did WHAT?!” story.
Old engines, vintage gear, and hands-on moments.
📍 Downtown | 🎟️ $7–$9 | ⏰ Tues–Sat
Located inside an old firehouse, this museum walks you through the history of firefighting in Denver — trucks, alarms, gear, and everything in between. Ring the vintage bell, check out early fire trucks, and get an inside look at one of Denver’s most essential services.
🌀 Meow Wolf Denver — Convergence Station
A psychedelic, multiverse-bending art experience.
📍 Sun Valley | 🎟️ From $50 | ⏰ Late hours on weekends
No one — and I mean no one — can fully describe Meow Wolf. Everyone agrees it’s weird, immersive, and insanely fun. You’ll wander through portals, neon dreamscapes, sound worlds, and giant spaces that feel like a cross between a sci-fi movie and a fever dream. Perfect for families, date night, or that one relative who “doesn’t get modern art.”
One legendary artist, all in one place.
📍 Golden Triangle | 🎟️ $0–$18 | ⏰ Closed Mon
If you like abstract expressionism, you’ll love this. If you don’t… you may still love this. Clyfford Still insisted that all his art live in one museum, and Denver got the honor. It’s beautifully curated, calming, and a surprisingly cool look at the evolution of one artist’s entire creative life.
🚂 Forney Museum of Transportation
800+ ways people have gotten around.
📍 North Denver | 🎟️ $9–$17 | ⏰ Thurs–Mon
This place is catnip for transportation geeks. Locomotives, vintage cars, buggies, sleds, aircraft — even Amelia Earhart’s 1923 Kissel “Gold Bug.” It’s massive, nostalgic, and packed with pieces you won’t find anywhere else.
🖼️ Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art
An unmatched look at 150 years of design.
📍 Golden Triangle | 🎟️ $10–$12 | ⏰ Closed Wed
Part art museum, part time capsule. You’ll see everything from modern design pieces to the full career of Colorado painter Vance Kirkland. The exhibits are salon-style — meaning tons of art displayed together — and it’s only for ages 13+, so it stays quiet and contemplative.
A playful, mind-bending selfie playground.
📍 16th Street Mall | 🎟️ $25–$30 | ⏰ Open daily
This spot is packed with reversed rooms, “gravity-defying” illusions, mirror mazes, and photo ops that trick your brain. Super fun for families, dates, or anyone who wants to confuse their Instagram followers.
🤠 American Museum of Western Art — The Anschutz Collection
How artists have captured the West for 200 years.
📍 Downtown | 🎟️ $5 | ⏰ Mon, Wed & Fri
This underrated gem holds 600 pieces of Western art across multiple styles — from the Hudson River School to cubism. It’s cozy, deeply historic, and gives a layered look at how artists imagined the West over time.
