🥪 Cheap Eats in FoCo: Locals Spill Their Best Budget Bites
🥪 FoCo on a Budget: Where Locals Actually Eat Cheap
Happy Wednesday, FoCo,
Hey hey, it’s Ben! Someone in a local forum asked the question we’ve all been thinking: where can you still eat cheap in this town? And not “$13 and it’s kind of a deal” cheap — we’re talking actual wallet-friendly meals. The comments section did not disappoint… so I rounded up the best local-approved spots for eating well without spending big.
Which historic Fort Collins landmark was once a power plant that provided electricity to the city — and is now home to a popular arts and culture center?

🥪 FoCo on a Budget: Where Locals Actually Eat Cheap
Someone in a local FB forum asked where to find actually affordable food in FoCo right now — not 3-year-old suggestions, not “$17 but it’s a big portion,” but real budget-friendly stuff. And FoCo showed up with some seriously helpful, scrappy ideas. Here’s the good stuff 👇
1. “I Just Need Food, Not Vibes”
These were the top answers from locals who know how to stretch a dollar:
Vindeket Foods – pay-what-you-can rescued groceries, and people swear by it. Show up early, lines can get long.
FoCo Cafe – yes, again! Pay-what-you-can or volunteer for a meal. If you’re in a tight spot, this community has your back.
Esh’s / discount groceries (and even that spot up in Laporte) – lots of “frozen before expiration” meats and random gems for way cheaper than the big stores.
This is very FoCo energy: nobody should go hungry.
2. “I Want Cheap But I Still Want Good”
More than a few folks said: if you want healthy, tasty, and still reasonable, go to Liminal. Bowls that can stretch to two meals, locally sourced, and owners people love. Not $5, but very solid value.
Also mentioned a bunch:
Sprouts deli sandwiches around $6
Hospital/cafeteria lunches (seriously)
Shamrock Supply for bulk meats if you’ve got freezer space
3. Sneaky Restaurant Deals the Locals Dropped
These are the ones you’ll only know if you live here:
Krazy Karl’s Beat the Clock (Mon/Thurs): call at 5:02? That’s your price. Huge pizza, tiny bill.
Big Al’s $5 burger happy hour 2–5 p.m.
Tap & Handle Wednesday burger for around $7.50.
Pizza Casbah / Panhandler’s / Corner Slice – slices in the $4–$5 range that actually fill you up.
The Lyric has a $5 food menu.
Costco / Sam’s classics: $1.50 hot dog + drink. One local even reminded everyone the CEO basically swore that price would never go up 😂
4. If You’re Really in Hustle Mode
A bunch of people said: rice, beans, rotisserie chicken, crockpot meals, and using leftovers with ramen can feed you for a week under $20. Not glamorous, but FoCo has a lot of students, service workers, and families doing exactly that.
