💧 Longmont Fun Fact: A Lake with a Glacial Past

Union Reservoir might look like your average summer hangout, but it’s one of the few natural lakes in Colorado, carved by glaciers thousands of years ago. Originally called Calkins Lake, it became an official reservoir in 1903 when the Union Ditch Company drilled a tunnel to release water into St. Vrain Creek. Today, it’s 736 acres of paddleboarding, fishing, and chill water vibes just east of Longmont.

🌮 Craving: Teocalli Cocina

Teocalli Cocina brings bold, regional Mexican flavors to downtown Longmont—with a side of stylish ambiance and top-tier service. The entire menu is 100% gluten-free, the corn is the real deal, and everything from tacos to tamales is made with care. Bonus: the staff makes the experience even more unforgettable.

🧳 Your Longmont Visitor Game Plan: Host Mode Activated

Your out-of-town friend is finally making the trip—and lucky for them, they’ve got you as their tour guide. With scenic trails, epic eats, and those effortlessly chill summer vibes, Longmont makes playing host feel easy.

Here’s your no-stress, high-fun weekend itinerary to show off why this town’s the best kept secret on the Front Range:

🌇 Friday Arrival
🌞 Saturday Adventures
  • Morning stroll or ride: Hit the St. Vrain Greenway—bike, jog, or just walk and chat.

Lake time: Take paddleboards or rent gear at Union Reservoir (bonus: there’s a dog beach!) or chill at McIntosh Lake for views and a picnic.

  • Afternoon fun: Cheese tasting at Haystack Mountain Goat Creamery or try a hands-on class at The Art of Cheese.

  • Evening hang:

If it’s a second Friday, hit up the Downtown Creative District—galleries, food, good energy.

Or hop on the Brewhop Trolley and casually brewery-hop.

If it’s Thursday instead? Don’t miss the Concert Series @ the Museum—a summer fave.

☕ Sunday Slowdown
  • Brunch stop: Grab something tasty at a local café—maybe a patio seat to soak it all in.

  • Hike it out: Do a short trail at Button Rock Preserve or stretch your legs at Dickens Farm Nature Area.

  • One last bite: Pick a final local favorite for dinner before they hit the road. (Or casually convince them to stay another night…)

🧭 Bonus Host Tips
  • 🕶️ 300+ days of sunshine doesn’t mean leave the raincoat—check the weather.

  • 📆 Something’s always happening: peek at the event calendar before they arrive.

  • 🚲 Greenway + Brewhop = easy ways to get around without playing Uber driver.

  • 🎶 Weekends feel longer when there’s live music involved—plan ahead!
