🧺 Picnic Like a Local: Longmont’s Top Spots to Snack Outside

Hot take: Any answer that isn’t McIntosh Lake is wrong.

Hotter take: Longmont has a bunch of great picnic spots—you just have to know where to plop your blanket.

Here are our favorite local-approved places to roll out the gingham and break out the sandwiches:

If you know, you know. Wide open space, sparkling lake views, and sunsets so good they should charge admission. Locals swear by the north side near Flanders Park for prime blanket real estate.

It’s got shaded picnic tables, walkable stone steps across the water, and one spot that was literally suggested as a proposal location. So yeah, it’s scenic. Bonus points for mountain views and birdwatching.

Tiny, charming, and a little off the radar. This one gets all the love in the comments—and we’re not arguing. It’s low-key and lovely.

Right in town and perfect for a casual picnic + bike ride. Look for picnic tables near the bridge, and stroll it off with a walk along the river trail.

Got the kids in tow? This place is a family picnic dream with a playground, skate park, soccer fields, and shady tables galore.

Big open fields, big picnic tables, and plenty of space to spread out—especially good for groups or that extra-loud friend who always brings 3 speakers.

A short drive, but a worthy one. Nestled in Lyons with a river running through it, this park gets high praise from locals who love the cooler temps, water access, and epic backdrop.

🚗 Bonus Spots Worth the Drive

  • Rabbit Mountain for a sunset view + snack with elevation

  • Lake Erie for a scenic drive + peaceful picnic energy

  • Artist’s Point (Boulder) for dramatic views… just avoid peak weekend crowds

Pro tip: Keep an extra blanket in your trunk. You never know when the perfect picnic moment will strike—and Longmont delivers them often.
