You don’t have to leave town to go on a wildlife adventure—just look around! Longmont is home to an incredible mix of critters, from sunbathing turtles to fly-by eagles and the occasional sneaky coyote. Whether you’re hiking a trail or sipping coffee on your porch, chances are, nature’s watching you back.

🦅 The Locals: Who’s Who in the Wild

  • 🐻 Black Bears

    Spotted everywhere from mountain forests to the suburbs. If your trash bins are bear-resistant, you’re already part of the ecosystem.

  • 🦁 Mountain Lions

    They’re elusive, majestic, and mostly keep to themselves—but yes, they’re out there. Keep your distance and your pets close.

  • 🐺 Coyotes

    Masters of adaptation, these clever canines are seen strolling through parks, open spaces, and sometimes even down neighborhood sidewalks like they own the place (because, kind of, they do).

  • 🦆 Birds Galore

    Golden Ponds Park is birdwatching heaven. Spot American White Pelicans, Bald Eagles, Double-crested Cormorants, and maybe even a heron doing a solo pond performance.

  • 🦫 Beavers

    Look for freshly chewed logs and muddy lodges near creeks and ponds. These tiny architects are reshaping local waterways—one dam at a time.

    Practically the neighborhood deer. You’ll see them grazing in fields, parks, or peeking through your backyard fence.

  • Residential Areas – Believe it or not, early morning and twilight hours are prime time for seeing wildlife casually stroll through your street.

  • 📣 Be loud when hiking—especially near brush.

  • 🐾 Keep dogs leashed and cats indoors.

  • 🥫 Store food securely—especially when camping.
