š¤ Guided Bird Walks at Sandstone Ranch
Longmontās Sandstone Ranch is hosting guided bird walks this May ā and honestly, this might be one of the most relaxing ways to spend a spring morning around town.
š Sandstone Ranch | ā° May 5 & May 19, 7:30 AMā10:30 AM | šļø $4 (ages 10+, registration required)
Local birder Carl Starace leads the walks along the ranchās scenic loop trails while helping spot and identify the many birds that pass through the area. Translation: youāll finally know the difference between a finch, a hawk, and āthat one loud bird outside my apartment at 5 AM.ā
A few reasons this event feels very Longmont:
šæ Peaceful trails with mountain views and open space
š¦ Tons of wildlife activity this time of year
š² Bike-friendly paths if you want to turn it into a full morning adventure
š One of the coolest playground setups in town if youāre bringing kids later
ā A perfect excuse to reward yourself with coffee afterward
The walks start at the Visitors Center upper parking lot, and organizers recommend bringing:
š Binoculars
š§ Water
š§¢ Layers ā because Colorado mornings love plot twists
And if you havenāt explored Sandstone Ranch lately, this is your reminder that the place is way more than sports fields. Between the trails, playgrounds, history, picnic areas, and nature spaces, itās basically Longmontās āwhy donāt I come here more often?ā park.
