đł Longmontâs Secret Superpower? Look Up.
The Canopy Effect
Happy Monday, Longmont!đ§Ą
Ever notice how some streets here just feel different? Thereâs a certain kind of calm you hit while driving through town â especially this time of year. The reason might be right above you.
Longmont doesnât always shout about its strengths â but our tree canopy? Thatâs a quiet show-off.
đ We Asked. You Answered. Now⌠Do We Reveal?
You told us you wanted Whatâs Happeninâ stickers â so weâve been quietly working behind the scenes on brand-new designs (yes, Rocky may or may not be involved đ).
The question isâŚ
đ¨ Should we reveal the new sticker designs this Wednesday?

Longmontâs Leafy Love Story đł
Some towns have skyline views. Some have flashy new builds. And then thereâs Longmont â quietly flexing one of the most underrated superpowers on the Front Range: that tree canopy.
Take a slow drive down Hover, cruise through Old Town, or loop around McIntosh on a golden-hour evening and tell me you donât feel it. The way the branches arch over certain streets. The pops of red and orange tucked between historic homes. The kind of shade that makes a summer walk feel like a small luxury.
Itâs not an accident, either.
Longmontâs Forestry team maintains over 21,000 publicly owned trees â yes, 21,000 â through the cityâs official program. Weâre also a proud Tree City USA community (flex đŞ), and you can literally explore the urban forest through the cityâs interactive tree inventory and virtual tree tour.
A few local spots where the canopy really shows off:
đł Thompson Park â One of the most diverse collections of tree species in town. Itâs basically a living museum of shade.
đ Horizon Drive â McIntosh Lake â Especially in fall, this stretch feels like a postcard.
đĄ Old Town neighborhoods â The tall, established trees here give serious Midwest-meets-Front-Range energy.
â°ď¸ Mountain View Cemetery â Quiet, historic, and home to some of the oldest trees in the area.
And maybe the best part? You can drive just a few minutes outside city limits and youâre back to open farmland and big-sky views. That contrast â lush neighborhood streets to wide-open fields â is part of Longmontâs charm.
Are we the most forested place in the country? No.
Do we secretly punch way above our weight on tree coverage compared to much of the Front Range? Absolutely.
So hereâs to the maples, the oaks, the ash (yes, we see you fighting the good fight against emerald ash borer), the elms, and every neighbor whoâs ever planted a sapling with future shade in mind.
Longmont doesnât just grow â it grows roots. đż
