☀️ Paddleboards, Plovers, and Picnic Vibes: A Morning at McIntosh Lake

Hey Longmont!

Looking for a nature break that doesn’t require altitude training or a road trip? Say hello to McIntosh Lake — Longmont’s serene backyard reservoir where paddleboards rule, swimsuits stay dry, and the only waves are made by passing geese.

Longmont Trivia 🌅

🏞️ Make a Splash (Well… Not Literally) at McIntosh Lake

This 265-acre reservoir isn’t just easy on the eyes (hi, Longs Peak views), it’s also a hub for low-key outdoor fun. Whether you’re walking the 3.5-mile loop, spotting eagles and plovers, or gliding across the water in a kayak, this nature area serves chill summer vibes on tap — just don’t bring a motor, a pool toy, or your inner tube (the lake is very clear about that).

🛶 Pro tips for smooth sailing (literally):

  • Only 25 boats allowed on the water at a time.

  • All watercraft must be carry-in and non-motorized.

  • Yes, lifejackets required for everyone — even your paddleboard yoga buddy.

  • And no, you can’t swim here — McIntosh is a reservoir, not your backyard pool.

🎣 Prefer your nature from shore? Grab a Colorado fishing license and cast for catfish, wiper, walleye, or bass — just maybe bring a sunhat, the trail has zero chill in the shade department.

📍 1929 Harvard St. | Free to visit | Open year-round

Open from 1 hour before sunrise until 1 hour after sunset — aka, ideal for catching golden hour and getting home before the mosquitoes do.

McIntosh has been a local fixture since 1903 (fun fact: it was built by damming the Oligarchy Ditch — epic villain name, very minor role). It officially opened for public fun in 2004 and has been serving scenic views, birdwatching drama, and paddle-powered peace ever since.

🚫 The No List (because rules = lake harmony):

✖ No swimming

✖ No pool floats

✖ No unleashed dogs

✖ No glass containers

✖ No putting in if the lake is already full (there’s a 25 boat cap!)
