Whether you’re after bass, trout, walleye, or simply a quiet afternoon outdoors, Longmont’s lakes and creeks deliver. From easy shoreline casting to fly-fishing in mountain streams, there’s a spot for every skill level. Just remember to grab a Colorado Parks & Wildlife fishing license, and if you’re heading up to Button Rock Preserve, bring the extra permit too.

Union Reservoir

→ One of the area’s most popular fishing spots, with walleye, carp (a fly-fishing favorite), trout, crappie, and catfish. Bonus: big open views and plenty of shoreline.

Lagerman Agricultural Preserve

→ A mellow local favorite known for bass, bluegill, and catfish. It’s also a great place to combine fishing with a walk around the lake.

McIntosh Lake

→ A classic Longmont hangout with great mountain views and solid shore fishing for carp, catfish, and walleye.

St. Vrain State Park

→ Ten ponds stocked with trout, bass, and crappie—perfect for anglers who like having options.

Pella Crossing (Hygiene)

→ A peaceful spot with multiple ponds, good fishing, and plenty of bird-watching if the fish aren’t biting.

Izaak Walton Park

→ A special kids-only fishery, giving young anglers their own stocked pond full of trout and catfish.

St. Vrain Creek at Button Rock Preserve

→ A fly-fishing gem with beautiful scenery and brown trout swimming through the current.

šŸ’” Local Tip: Swing by Angles Sports Ski Board and Fly Shop downtown for licenses, gear, or advice on where the fish are biting this week.

So grab your rod, pack a cooler, and pick your favorite spot. Around here, fishing isn’t just about the catch—it’s about sunny afternoons, mountain views, and maybe a story about the one that got away.
