About This Event
Are you curious about the beauty and meaning behind traditional Buddhist art? In this beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll explore the foundations of thangka, a sacred painting practice rooted in Tibetan Buddhism. Using the serene face of the Buddha as our focus, you’ll be guided step-by-step through the basics of thangka design. Jyoti will help you explore the symbolism behind the art, learn simple geometric principles that create balance and harmony, and practice the precise line work that brings these images to life. Blending creativity with mindfulness, this workshop offers a chance to focus your attention and connect with a rich artistic tradition in a relaxed environment. Jyoti Fontaine is a contemporary Buddhist artist based in Lafayette, Colorado. Born in a yoga ashram and shaped by a lifelong path of devotion, creativity, and mindfulness, she is self-taught in technique and trained in thangka painting by Karma Phuntsok and Faith Stone. Her work honors traditional Buddhist and Hindu iconography while bringing it into modern visual dialogue through bold color, abstract backgrounds, and the natural beauty of Colorado. Jyoti’s paintings reflect deep respect for sacred accuracy, lineage, and spiritual practice while embracing fresh, contemporary expression.
