About This Event

CU students perform original songs from Professor Mike Barnett's Intro to Songwriting class. Celebrate their creativity and hard work! Join us for an evening of original music as talented CU students take the stage to share the songs they've created throughout the semester! This showcase celebrates the creative work of students from Professor Mike Barnett's Intro to Songwriting class. Over the course of the term, these emerging songwriters have explored a variety of techniques and tools for crafting meaningful, expressive songs—from lyric writing and melody development to arrangement and performance. Now it's time to hear the results. Each student will perform their original compositions, offering a glimpse into their unique perspectives, stories, and artistic voices. Whether you're a fellow student, faculty member, family, friend, or simply a lover of live music, this is a wonderful opportunity to support CU's vibrant creative community and discover new musical talent. Come celebrate the hard work, creativity, and courage it takes to share original songs with the world. We can't wait to see you there! CU Boulder SoundWorks is a concert series-meets-forum for the creation and performance of new and original works by student composers, improvisers, performers and collaborators from the College of Music, as well as a space to celebrate works by living composers from outside the CU Boulder community. SoundWorks values a broad aesthetic range of sound-based art inclusive of all genres and manners of music making—from concert music to songwriting to electroacoustic to jazz ... and beyond. We strive to contribute to our broader communities, both local and national, through our art and conversations. SoundWorks has welcomed many guests over the years, including Ursula Oppens, Nina Young, Alarm Will Sound, Bang on a Can All-Stars, Eighth Blackbird, HOCKET, ~Nois and annual appearances by the Boulder Altitude Directive and the college’s Wind Symphony. Concerts are staged in Grusin Music Hall with special events in the ATLAS B2 Center for Media, Art and Performance, and other venues. Join us as we celebrate CU Songwriters.
