About This Event
In this session, participants will create a mixed-media drawing of a house starting from a personal photograph. The class is structured to move from a basic outline to a finished, colored piece. This approach is designed to be accessible, allowing students to focus on the details and character of the building without the frustration of getting the initial proportions wrong. What We Will Do The class follows a specific four-step sequence: • Tracing: We begin by using a printed photo and multimedia paper to trace the main structure and rooflines of the house, adding the smaller architectural details, windows, and surrounding elements like trees or fences. • Inking: We will go over the pencil lines with pen to define the structure. • Painting: The final step involves applying watercolor paint to add color and texture to the house and its environment. Participant Requirements Each participant needs to bring a physical, printed image of a house (sizes from 5x7 to 8x10) on paper, not a photograph. Participants can also bring an iPad or other tablet with the image to trace from. The photo can be of their own home, a historical building, or any architecture they find interesting. Materials Provided • Mixed-media paper • Pencils and archival pens • Paint and brushes
