Voices From the Plaza creates the feeling of sitting in the center of a vibrant European square, where Spanish devotional songs, Cuban rhythms, and contemporary American compositions converge in an evening of guitar-centered chamber music. Featured artist Hao Yang, an internationally acclaimed guitarist and Astral Artist who earned her master's degree at Denver's Lamont School of Music, returns to Colorado joined by an exceptional ensemble: violinists Tien-Hsin Cindy Wu and Venezuelan violinist Rubén Rengel; violist Ramón Carrero-Martínez, a member of Carnegie Hall's Ensemble Connect; and Cultural Caravan founder Josh Halpern. From Turina's intimate Spanish pieces through Brouwer's joyful Cuban quintet to Kernis's unexpected take on popular dance music, each work offers a different voice calling out from the plaza. Together, they create a celebration of how chamber music serves as a bridge between cultures, connecting musical languages that might otherwise never meet.
