If the book is not picked up by that date, you relinquish your copy to Tattered Cover Book Store. ABOUT THE BOOK History Enshrined Within months of its founding, Denver required places to bury its deceased. They were initially interred at today’s Cheesman Park and Denver Botanic Gardens. As the city matured, its leaders established beautifully manicured and lushly irrigated garden cemeteries, graced with elegant funerary monuments and mausolea. Everyone being equal in death, mining millionaires, governors and senators are buried alongside prostitutes, gangsters and murderers. Journalists, lawmen and war heroes rest in peace together among stately trees. The intrepid cemetery explorer will find musicians, merchants and various eccentrics—even an Apollo astronaut and a storied cannibal. ABOUT THE AUTHORS Denver-born Mark A. Barnhouse has researched and written about his city’s history for nearly three decades. His books include A History Lover’s Guide to Denver, Lost Department Stores of Denver and Vanished Denver Landmarks, among others. James M. Cavoto Sr. worked at Fairmount Cemetery for thirty-six years, assisting bereaved families and rising to the position of vice president of sales and marketing. Prior to retirement, he also ran Fairmount Heritage Foundation, writing and conducting numerous tours and becoming a guardian of the foundation’s incredible history.
