Upper School Humanities Educator (anticipated opening)
Watershed School
Full-time Boulder, CO Education
Job Description
Join us, and help shape the future of education.
Watershed is a small 6-12 independent school in Boulder, Colorado with a progressive educational model that is research-based, future-focused, and community-centered. We know that students learn best when engaged in learning not just about the world, but in the world and for the world. For more context about how we at Watershed are leaning into the future of independent school education, please take a look at our strategic vision. Watershed seeks to expand the purpose of independent schools – being a school that serves its students well and also has a real, positive impact within the broader community – working with community partners to build a future that is more just and more sustainable.
We seek a passionate, energetic, full-time high school humanities educator to begin August 4, 2026. Our academic program involves courses we call “expeditions.” These courses are developed around real challenges in the world, involve experts and experiences outside the classroom, and engage students in Common Good Projects – work that has a direct impact beyond the walls of the school. This is a cornerstone of our commitment to become a truly community-centered school, and it is one way we hope to help make our world more just and more sustainable.
Teaching at Watershed also includes, among other duties, leading an advisory group, engaging in orientation camping trips, designing and teaching a May Term course with a travel component, and participating in extensive professional development.
The ideal candidate will have:
• A deep commitment to progressive educational ideas and practices.
• 3+ years experience teaching history or English at the high school level.
• Consistent record of working to innovate and improve their teaching through both experimentation and professional learning.
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively.
• Demonstrated commitment to the work of equity and belonging in schools.
• Broad global and multicultural competency.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a wide range of adolescents.
• Experience leading outdoor trips.
• Ability to travel on overnight trips, including international travel, for durations up to two weeks long.
• Have, or be able to obtain by August 1, 2026, either Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder certification.
Compensation: The salary range for full-time educator positions at Watershed is $55,000-$90,000 depending on experience.
To apply, please send a resume and cover letter to [email protected]
Note: this is an anticipated opening. However, review of applications will begin immediately.
