Johnny Roberts Disc Golf Course: the most played in the country
If you have ever walked through Memorial Park and wondered why discs are constantly flying past, here is your answer. Johnny Roberts Disc Golf Course was just named the most played disc golf course in the United States, officially ending a seven year run by a course in San Diego. That is a big deal in a sport with more than 16,000 courses worldwide and most of them right here in the US.
Located behind Arvada City Hall and the police headquarters, Johnny Roberts is a short, approachable 18 hole course that has been part of the city since 1978. Most holes sit between 150 and 225 feet, the terrain is mostly flat, and you can play a full round in about an hour. That combo makes it welcoming for beginners, fast for regulars, and perfect for squeezing in a round before dinner.
Popularity here is measured by rounds logged on the UDisc app, which is how most disc golfers keep score and track stats. In 2025 alone, Johnny Roberts saw a huge jump in recorded rounds, pushing it past every other course in the country. Being close to Denver helps, but so does the vibe. It is easy, social, and full of ace runs that keep people coming back.
A few things to know before you go:
It gets busy, especially on weekends. Expect to share the park with walkers, cyclists, dogs, and strollers.
Hole 2 requires stepping across stones in the creek. If that is not your thing, you can skip straight to Hole 3.
The course is mixed use and very friendly. League nights and glow rounds are common, and newcomers are welcome.
Restrooms are available, dogs are allowed, and it is stroller friendly.
Johnny Roberts proves that you do not need mountains or massive drives to build something people love. Sometimes all it takes is a great neighborhood course, good design, and a lot of community energy. Arvada just happens to have the most popular one in the country.
Why Johnny Roberts keeps people coming back?
A big part of Johnny Roberts’ popularity comes down to how much fun it is with other people. One local reviewer called it “a great course that’s fun with friends,” pointing out the mix of trees and small water hazards and admitting it is even better when you beat your buddies. Another regular highlighted the social side too, noting the nighttime glow rounds on select evenings when the baskets light up and the course feels completely different after dark.
It is also a course that works for more people than you might expect. A wheelchair user shared that the wide sidewalks, open grass, and clean, well maintained park make it easy to enjoy, even outside the main fairways. Between accessibility, friendly competition, and a relaxed park setting, Johnny Roberts feels less like a destination course and more like a community hangout that just happens to have baskets.
