🌿 Arvada’s main trails, explained
Some cities have random trail fragments. Arvada quietly has a full east-to-west system that actually connects. Whether you’re riding, walking, or just need a peaceful reset, these trails shape how locals move across town. Keep scrolling to see which one fits your style.
🚶♂️ Ralston Creek Trail
If you ask longtime locals to name “the” Arvada trail, this is usually the answer.
Following the path of the original Colorado Gold Rush, Ralston Creek Trail is the city’s longest continuous trail and the one that links the most parks and open spaces. It winds past water, wildlife areas, playgrounds, picnic spots, and historic sites, all while staying surprisingly peaceful for how central it is.
A classic starting point is the iconic suspended cable bridge at Gold Strike Park. From there, the trail connects park after park before climbing gently west toward Tucker Lake and finishing near Blunn Reservoir with wide-open skyline views.
Distance: 12.5 miles
Good to know: Horses are allowed only on specific signed sections west of Eldridge Street and east of Pierce Street.
Don’t let the name fool you. This one is anything but boring.
Little Dry Creek Trail is paved, flat, and reliable year-round, which makes it a favorite for commuters, casual cyclists, runners, and anyone pushing a stroller. It cuts through northern Arvada with wetlands, wildlife sightings, and neighborhood parks along the way.
It is also part of the larger Rocky Mountain Greenway, meaning this trail quietly connects Arvada to a much bigger regional system. Keep heading east and you’ll eventually tie into Clear Creek and the South Platte trail network.
Distance: 6.0 miles
Good to know: Dogs are welcome on leash, and parking is easy near the Arvada-Westminster border.
This is the trail you choose when you want it to feel like you’ve left town without actually leaving town.
Van Bibber Creek Trail follows a quieter stream corridor through open space and wooded sections, especially between Ward Road and Indiana Street. Birdwatchers love this stretch, and it tends to feel more tucked away than the other main trails.
It is shorter than the others, but what it lacks in distance it makes up for in calm, creekside vibes.
Distance: 2.5 miles east of Indiana Street, 1 mile west of Easley Road
Good to know: Horses are allowed between Ward Road and Indiana Street.
🧘♀️ Bonus stop: Van Bibber activity station
Just west of the Kipling underpass, Van Bibber Creek Trail now has a shaded rest stop with picnic tables and outdoor fitness equipment. It’s an easy excuse to stop, stretch, and take in foothill views while watching games at the nearby Harold D. Lutz Baseball Fields.
