Arvada’s Mountain Train Plans Just Took a Step Forward
🚆 Arvada’s Mountain Rail Plan Is Moving Forward
Happy Wednesday, Arvada!
There’s a project in the works that could seriously change how Arvada gets around. It’s not finished yet, but things are starting to feel more real. And if you’ve ever wished for an easier way to get to the mountains, this is worth paying attention to.
What’s Happenin’ is growing — want to join us?
Last month our local newsletters across Boulder, Arvada, Fort Collins, Longmont, and Denver were opened 275,000+ times by locals looking for things to do and places to go.
As we continue to grow, I’m looking to add one or two people to help with partnerships with local businesses.
If you love supporting local businesses and want to help grow these newsletters, just reply to this email and tell me a little about yourself.
🚆 Public meeting: here’s your chance to weigh in
CDOT is hosting a public open house to talk about where a future West Metro station could go.
📍 Arvada High School
📅 Thursday, April 30, 2026
⏰ 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM
This is part of the process to figure out if and where Arvada could get a stop on the new Mountain Rail line.
🗺️ What this project actually is
The Mountain Rail program is a statewide plan to run passenger trains from Denver into the mountains using existing rail lines.
Think:
Denver ➝ Winter Park ➝ Fraser ➝ Granby
Potential future expansion all the way to Steamboat Springs
Instead of building brand-new tracks, the plan is to reuse existing corridors that used to carry more freight traffic.
📍 Why Arvada is in the conversation
CDOT is studying possible “West Metro” station locations, and Arvada is right in the mix.
Nothing is finalized yet. They’re weighing:
Access to existing rail lines
Parking and transit connections
Community input (this part actually matters here)
That’s why this open house is happening now.
⸻
🏔️ Why people are paying attention
If this moves forward, it could mean:
Skipping the I-70 traffic for ski days
Easier weekend trips to the mountains
More transit options without heading into downtown Denver
There’s also a bigger picture. Rail access tends to bring development with it, from housing to local businesses.
💬 What happens next
CDOT is still in the planning phase. They’re collecting feedback, studying locations, and working through logistics before anything gets built.
So this isn’t a done deal yet. But it’s one of those rare chances where locals can actually help shape what gets built.
