City, Waste Management to Build Colorado’s Largest RNG Facility

Denver and Waste Management are partnering to build the state’s first landfill gas-to-renewable natural gas plant, set for the Denver Arapahoe Disposal Site landfill.

The project is a major piece of Denver’s climate strategy — cutting emissions, reducing flaring, and generating new revenue for the city.

  • Approved by Denver City Council this week.

  • WM will finance, build & operate the facility.

  • Denver receives royalty payments from all RNG revenue.

  • New plant will capture and refine nearly all landfill gas into pipeline-quality fuel.

  • Expected to lower ozone-forming emissions and improve local air quality.

  • Construction begins late 2026; operations start 2027.

City leaders call it a “bold step” toward clean energy — and one of Denver’s biggest climate wins in years.
