Senior Full Stack Web Engineer (Boulder, CO)
PickNik Robotics
Full-time Boulder, CO Technology
Job Description
Do you want to be part of building the next generation of robots and see those robots out in the real world? If so, consider joining us at PickNik as a Senior Full Stack Web Engineer.
PickNik Robotics is the company behind MoveIt Pro, a software platform that combines AI and advanced motion planning to make robots work in the real world. We're focused on pushing the boundaries of robotics — and showing what’s possible when robots are powered by great software. PickNik has taken our learnings from the past 10 years - working with Google, Amazon, Samsung, BMW, Lockheed Martin, NASA, and many startups - and distilled that knowledge into MoveIt Pro. Join us in helping companies deploy AI to robots fast and effectively, opening up new possibilities only limited by our customer’s imagination.
As a Senior Full Stack Web Engineer at PickNik you’ll be developing web-based front end development tools used by roboticists to configure robots, design applications, and debug performance. You will be joining a team of highly skilled and passionate robot developers in order to enable the next generation of robots around the world and in outer space. Responsibilities include developing software in TypeScript and React that powers robot control, 3D visualization of robot environments, and real-time monitoring. You'll make decisions on software design and implementation while working closely with our Python/FastAPI backend and ROS-based robotics systems. This role offers a path towards technical leadership and engineering management for the right candidate - we're looking for someone with both the experience and the drive to grow into that responsibility as our team scales.
Am I a good fit?
• You love developing seamless experiences allowing users to tackle complex problems.
• You are excited to be part of a small team of experts working on an exciting product.
• You are excited about robotics and creating the next generation of robot software.
• You have strong opinions about system design and have tested different methods for translating architecture decisions into specifications for AI coding tools.
• Ability to collaborate with teams around the world.
• You're energized by the idea of growing beyond an individual contributor role - taking ownership of technical direction, mentoring teammates, and eventually leading an engineering team.
• Need to be living in or willing to relocate to Boulder or greater Denver area to foster a great team learning environment.
Requirements
• Degree(s) in Computer Science, and/or equivalent industry experience.
• Minimum 6 years of relevant work experience
• Expertise in TypeScript and strong experience building React (v19+) applications using modern React features (hooks, context, component patterns).
• Experience implementing and maintaining WebSocket connections for live or streaming data.
• Experience integrating with RESTful APIs, particularly with FastAPI or analogous frameworks, preferably in Python.
• Familiarity with Vitest and React Testing Library or similar testing frameworks for front-end code.
• Familiarity with Vite or other modern build tools for efficient development and deployment workflows.
• Comfortable directing implementation through AI coding tools and scalably reviewing output.
• Clear potential to lead technical projects, drive architectural decisions, and manage engineers.
• Be able to travel approximately every other month to client sites & conferences. Less than 20% of the time.
Some Preferred Skills/experience
• Experience with Agile software development methodology
• Experience deploying, managing, and scaling GPU-accelerated web applications on AWS or similar cloud services.
• Exposure to Python for scripting, automation, or API/server-side development.
• Exposure to real-time dashboards or data visualizations for robotics applications.
• Experience with ROS 2, rosbridge, roslib, or similar robotics middleware — particularly bridging ROS topics/services to web clients over WebSockets.
• TanStack Query (React Query) for sophisticated data fetching and state management.
• TanStack Router or comparable routing libraries for client-side navigation.
• Familiarity with styled-components or other CSS-in-JS/modern styling tools.
• Prior experience in a tech lead, team lead, or engineering management role - or a strong desire to move in that direction.
